The bills listed below have potential to impact the expansion of multiple pathways in California high schools. Since ConnectEd is not a lobbying organization, we do not formally support or oppose pending legislation.

SB 21 Regional Education and Economic Integration Initiative – Establish the Regional Education and Economic Integration Initiative and provide grants to 10 local educational agencies or intermediary organizations to improve coordination and expand career technical education and college pathway options for more pupils. SB 52 CTE Teacher Credentialing – Rename the designated subjects vocational education credential to the designated subjects preliminary CTE teaching credential and establish a list of authorized subjects for the credential that reflects the 15 industry sectors identified in the CTE standards adopted by the SBE. SB 309 Career Technical Education: Subject Requirements for Admission to the University of California – Develop standards-based core CTE course curricula for at least 5 high-growth, high-need industry sectors, other than agriculture. Senator Scott Held in Senate Appropriations 5/31
SB 405 Schools: Curriculum: Opportunities for Pupils – Establish the Fair Competition for College and Career Pilot Program and give grants to up to 100 schools to increase CTE and a-g course offerings. Senator Steinberg Enrollment– Governor’s Desk

SB 675 Instructional Programs: Technology Integration Curriculum Plan – Conduct needs assessment of all school districts and county offices of education to determine availability and accessibility of CTE and computer literacy coursework. SB 681 Pupil Attendance: High School – Require school districts to ensure that each of its high schools offers pupils a minimum of 7 class periods per school day. Senator Torlakson Passed Senate; Two Year Bill
SB 830 Public Schools: Partnership Academies – Expand California Partnership Academy program to a maximum of 390 partnership academies by June 30, 2014, through the issuance of a maximum of 20 implementation grants per year. Senator Kehoe Held in Assembly Appropriations 8/30
